Touch the base and this rhinoceros beetle beats its wings 618 times a minute.
A 7.5-inch beetle with etched membrane wings, an armored horn and a plated body. A 1,200 rpm motor hides inside and drives both wings at once.
Why you'll love it
- ✓ Wings that really move. 618 beats a minute: slow enough to watch, fast enough to blur.
- ✓ Etched, not printed. The vein pattern is cut into the wings, so it catches the light as they move.
- ✓ Details inside and out. A V-eight engine visible through the body and a power light that blinks while it runs.
- ✓ A relaxing afternoon build. Intermediate level, about three hours, with the challenge all in the wing mechanism.
Great gift for insect lovers, nature fans, gadget lovers and anyone who likes a desk piece that moves.
