Mechanical Model Kits
These are the kits that do something once they're finished. A wound spring drives a motorcycle's pistons, an escapement keeps a pendulum swinging, a rubber band throws a mechanism through its cycle. The mechanism is the point, which is why most of them leave the gears exposed rather than hiding them behind a panel.
