Wind it up, press the driver's helmet, and it races 20 feet across the floor.
A wooden racing car with a working planetary differential, four-stage gearing and an engine sound box that runs as it drives. No batteries anywhere.
Why you'll love it
- ✓ It really drives. About 20 to 26 feet per wind, on silicone tires that grip rather than skid.
- ✓ A real differential. Twin sun gears and half shafts let it corner as tightly as 16 inches.
- ✓ Sounds the part. A mechanical engine sound box runs while it moves.
- ✓ Press to start. The driver's helmet is the release, and the drivetrain stays in view.
Great gift for car lovers, motorsport fans, curious engineers and anyone who likes a build that moves.

Build tips
- Keep a candle stub or crayon to wax the gears: a dry gear train is why a wind-up car goes 6 feet instead of 26.
- Wind and run the drivetrain before the bodywork goes over it.
- Give it a smooth floor for the first run: carpet eats most of the range.
Four hours to build. Then it actually drives away.
